About Charlotte's Behavior Corner

Meet the Team Behind Charlotte’s Corner
When it comes to working with animals, especially dogs - there are many knowledgeable people in veterinary care, animal welfare, interventions, and training. But if I’ve learned anything in my years of working in special education, it’s that sometimes peer models or “peer teachers” can help animals (and children) learn quicker. Skills are often easier to pick up when they’re shown by someone relatable.
That’s why Charlotte’s Corner isn’t just me, it’s also guided by the dogs who’ve been my best teachers.
Charlotte is the heart of it all. Charlotte’s Corner Behavior Consulting is named for her, because her steady, calm, and nurturing personality has been a source of guidance for countless fosters and shelter dogs over her lifetime.
Levi, even in his young age, has become a rock-solid model for play, manners, and confidence.
Layla, now a permanent member of our crew, brings her own lessons of resilience and quiet leadership to the mix.
In the past, I’ve always used my dogs as primary teachers when working on socialization and behavioral intervention goals. One of my all-time favorites was Mikey.... and if you’ve been around long enough, you’ll remember all 110 pounds of him, usually sporting a tie. There was no other dog like him and he is a story in itself for another time.
Dog-to-dog evaluations, shaping play styles & intensity, modeling safe behaviors, and assisting with human interactions are just some of the “jobs” my team dogs take on. With a strong rapport and relationship, they show me - and the dogs we work with - exactly where a dog is at and what they’re ready for.
Charlotte’s Corner Behavior Consulting isn’t just me training your dog. It’s a team effort. So if you see Charlotte, Levi, or Layla alongside me in a private session or group class, know they’re here to guide, model, and cheer your dog on too.
Meet the Behaviorist & Trainer
At Charlotte's Behavior Corner, training goes beyond obedience, it's about understanding behavior, building trust and creating real-life success for both dogs and their people. With decades of hands-on experience in animal welfare, rescue, and shelter work, I’ve worked with dogs of all backgrounds. From confident family pets to those struggling with reactivity, anxiety, and fear-based behaviors. This real-world experience is paired with ongoing education in behavior science, applied behavior analysis, and modern, evidence-based training practices.
My approach is rooted in a simple belief:
behavior is communication.
Dogs aren’t giving us a hard time, they’re having a hard time. My role is to help you understand what your dog is telling you and give you the tools to respond in a way that builds clarity, confidence, and trust.
I use ethical, science-based methods that focus on:
-
positive reinforcement
-
clear structure and communication
-
least intrusive, minimally aversive (LIMA) practices
A Unique Background in Behavior
Before focusing fully on animal behavior, I spent over 17 years working in education and behavioral support, including roles in:
-
special education
-
behavior intervention
-
trauma-informed care
-
crisis prevention
That experience deeply shapes how I approach dogs and their people today.
I understand what it means to:
-
support individuals who are overwhelmed
-
recognize early signs of stress and escalation
-
respond calmly and intentionally in high-stress moments
-
meet learners exactly where they are
Whether I’m working with a child or a dog, the goal is the same:
build safety, trust, and the skills needed to succeed.
Experience & Background
In addition to my work in training and behavior, I have spent years actively involved in rescue, including fostering dogs through The Good Life Rescue and providing long-term care for hospice dogs.
My experience includes working with:
-
reactive and sensitive dogs
-
bully breeds (a personal favorite)
-
herding and working breeds
-
hunting and scent-driven dogs
-
service and therapy dog foundations
This diverse background allows me to balance practical, real-world problem solving with compassionate, individualized training plans.
My Goal
My goal is always the same:
to help you understand your dog, build a stronger relationship, and create strategies that actually work in your everyday life.
Because when dogs feel understood and supported, they don’t just behave better...
they become more confident, resilient, and connected to the people who love them.
